About

Edible Eastbrook is an attempt to find a sustainable and productive way of managing land, whilst supporting all our food webs and having fun.

Our home is Helen Browning’s Organics farm just around the corner from the Vale of the White Horse near Swindon. At 4 hectares, Barn Field is a tiny part of the mixed farm. It was planted in 2014 with 22 rows of fruit and nut trees by Ben Raskin, from the Soil Association. Edible Eastbrook is adding over 50 different edible and aesthetic plants in some of these rows. In fact, we are creating an edible rainbow! Each growing strip is about 1m wide and we aim to plant 1.2km of delicious and beautiful plants in rainbow colours, e.g. red orache, ‘Baby Orange’ nasturtiums, ‘Golden’ chard, tarragon, borage, ‘Purple Queen’ beans and violas. The hand harvested leaves and flowers will make their way onto the menu at Helen Browning’s Royal Oak and be sold locally.
